Beaches
Tortola
Smugglers Cove
This is a small sandy beach just a 10 minute drive from here. There are seagrapes and almond trees for plenty of shade. The water here is calm for swimming all year round and for snorkelling. You can also buy drinks from the beach vendors.
Long Bay
This is your beach. A lovely mile long stretch of pure white sand, ideal for early morning and late afternoon strolls. The beach is good at the western end as there are not many rocks. Beach offers good bathing for most of the year.
Apple Bay
This is the surfing beach in wintertime.
Cane Garden Bay
This is a beautiful curved bay and is a popular anchorage with yachters. The water is calm and ideal for small children. There are plenty of restaurants on this beach. Try to avoid this beach on a cruise ship day.
Brewers Bay
This is a very quiet beach with the remains of a Rum Distillery on the roadside. Good for swimming for most of the year but can get a little rough during the winter months.
Josiah's Bay
This is on the north shore and has a dramatic pure white sand beach, good for sunbathing and excellent during the summer months as it is quite shallow and calm. In the winter however, it is rough and has an undertow. There are bars that serve drinks. Good for surfing during winter.
Lambert Beach
This beach is palm fringed, wide and sandy. The best time to visit is in the summer months as this is a bit of an undertow in winter. It is also home to the Lambert Beach Resort.
Little Bay
This is my favourite little cove. It is quite an adventure getting to it as you need a 4 x 4 and it is down a very rough track. It is well worth the journey though as you will find that you will be on your own. During the summer months this is spectacular but a little rough in December January and February with an undertow sometimes.
Beef Island
Long Bay
This is another Long Bay. It is a lovely curving beach, good for swimming most of the year. It is located behind the salt pond so be careful not to disturb the nesting terns.
Trellis Bay
This is a lovely, family friendly beach. It has several restaurants. You take the ferry here for Scrub Island. Also there is a full moon party here which is good for all the family to enjoy..
Virgin Gorda
The Baths
This is an amazing area, giant granite boulders form a series of grottoes and pools. This is part of the BVI National Park. You can get here by ferry, day sail or your own motorboat. Just moor up and swim ashore.
Devils Bay
Just to the west of The Baths, it can be reached by a meandering path from the parking lot or from The Baths.
Spring Bay
Just to the east of Devils Bay and can be reached by boat or walk from Devils Bay.
Trunk Bay
This is a spectacular beach bordering a private estate.
Savannah Bay
This is another beautiful beach. Very quiet and good for swimming.
Mahoe Bay
Home to the Mango Bay Resort, it has a curving stretch of sand. The beach is lined with villas and there is a restaurant at one end of the beach.
Jost van Dyke
White Bay
This has powdery white sand, popular anchorage for day sails. It has several bars, a small hotel and is the home of the Soggy Dollar Bar.
Foxys Beach
This is the home of Foxys Beach Bar. A great place for a sun downer, just before you bring your boat back to Cane Garden boat rentals. This place goes wild on New Years Eve. A must do if you’re here, take the late ferry over.
Sandy Cay
This can only be reached by boat, it is totally uninhabited. It’s good to walk around and a great Robinson Crusoe Island.
Peter Island
This is the home of a luxury hotel. There are some excellent beaches here. Take the ferry from Road Town and have a really great day with lunch at the hotel.
Prickly Pear
This is in North Sound just off Virgin Gorda. It has a long pristine stretch of white sand, calm water and a beach bar.
Anegada
This can be reached by ferry or plane. This is the only coral island in the BVI. It has vast stretches of sandy beaches. Loblolly is the most popular beach here with a hotel and restaurant. The ferry companies do regular day trips, see welcome brochure for info.
